Happy Birthday
Hi,
5 days ago marked the 1 year anniversary of when we started working on Hippstr. Over the next year a lot would happen. People came and left Hippstr then in January we (Patrick and I) won an award at the BT Young Scientist Competition for our work on Hippstr. This brought us great publicity and the common question:
When will Hippstr be ready?
Being the ambitious people we were, we’d reply with answers such as “in a month”, “next week” or “very soon”. These ambitious release dates would become a regular occurrence, we could never meet them. This became depressing and down-putting for everyone on the team and eventually work stopped as summer public examinations approached and Patrick left.
After the exams were over I soon started work again and realised I couldn’t do it by myself. So I brought in my good friend Hugh, who is now helping with Hippstr and here we are today.
Throughout the summer I’ve been working on a new logo, which you can see at the top of this blog, a new design for hippstr (which rocks!) and of course hippstr itself. We also switched our hosting to Slicehost who we absolutely love and would recommend highly, we still love mediatemple but not centos ;).
There’re quite a few things left to do but steady progress is being made. The news feed needs rewriting, friends need finishing as does the settings page and data aggregation needs to be made faster.
I’m not going to make the same mistake of saying when Hippstr will be finished but I can definetly say it will be “soonish” and the outlook is very positive. Tell all your friends to follow Hippstr on the Twitter for the latest updates or chat with us at our forums.
